India really Poised??

21st Century has indeed re-defined a lot of things in the world…..

Certain incidents compel me to say things which make me sound as what we, the youth, would rather brand as “senile”. I couldn’t stop myself from thinking “where are we heading to??”

There was this “breaking news” being covered on a certain channel. It was about this couple on whom “sting operation” was in progress. The husband (married for 10 years) was forcing his better-half to visit a party where people “swap” partners.

How ridiculous is that? When people talk of commitment phobia or the futility of arranged marriages….I understand. Everyone’s entitled to hold an opinion. I also understand extra-marital affairs (though my present state of mind never testifies it). But this is horrendous!!!

If one’s bored of one’s spouse, law allows them to separate. But how can such outrageous act of promiscuity be justified? Indulgence in such acts of consensual adultery is nothing but a manifestation of one’s diseased mentality. It is nothing but a changing face of society and our thinking...

No wonder number of divorces is only rising exponentially. No wonder movies based on a hexagenarian falling in “love” (oh yeah!!!) with his daughter’s friend is being critically acclaimed. No wonder newspapers are sprawling with “news” that only reflect the degradation of morale of the society.

This isn’t the 21st Century that I’d like to live in….We really need to start working on this…Do let me know what you think about it..…

I would differ with you on this one. Frankly, it is not about boredom or "loving" ones better-half any less. Nor it is about the "ethics" of the 21st Century in which you have to "think we are heading to".

Swinging, as it is commonly referred, is not new. It was practiced in various cultures and cadres of society. The famous example is of Queen Marguerite of France. Moreover, even Maharajahs in India had consorts and their queens had full knowledge of these acts. You contradict yourself. It is consensual hence cannot be termed adultery. To the contrary (on the number of divorces), (Source:Wikipedia) a survey "... found swingers are happier in their relationships as compared to the norm." See full article if it interests you. I will not comment on Nishabd as I have not watched the movie. Mind you, I am not justifying swinging here but I feel your reaction towards it is not justified.

Sex in India has always been a hushed-up topic. As for the "news" item which u referred (although I haven't read it), is just another example of how "penetrative" Indian media has become which is now reaching to bedrooms of ordinary citizens for juicy scoops.

Bottom line -- Sex Sells.

The only thing tht id agree to in ur comment is the last sentence....n the irony is even our media knows tht.....
if we were to follow wat maharajah s used to indulge in, we wudn really b in a position to claim to live in 21st century...wud we?
@ raka:
ditto on tht!!

humans were animals once, and now are devolving back to becoming animals again. or probably we were always like that. like karn said, this after all has been going on through several generations now, but never was there so much public awareness or strong media like today.

about morality here, i guess as long as there is consent from all the people who are doing it and not physically or mentally harming them or anybody else, they aren't really breaching 'human values'.

but yes they are breaching 'family values' which we have generated through centuries of practicing religion. (i don't know about atheists stand on family values).

Even i debate with myself if they are pardonable or not. But finally i guess i will have to live with it. We can't stop people from doing it, as long as they don't hurt themselves or anybody else.

And this whole swinging thing is so minimal and random, i think its a very negligible 'moral' dent to this 21st Century.

I am more happy with the bigger changes that have happened, freedom of expressing thoughts like this, and most importantly respect and empowerment of woman who now can stand on her own, get a job, and speak her mind out, which i am not sure was possible a few decades ago in this country.

India is poised.

I do agree on what u say...if u consider the broader picture probably swinging is a small "moral" dent,as u put it.....but my concern isnt that issue alone....its the whole "i dont care " attitude that is becoming "cool"er by the day!!!
but again as u say we wil probably have to live with it...as long as it doesn really affect our own conscience n moral values....
i d love to believe india IS poised!!:)

this rocks...swinging(what a term!) is one utter nonsensical theory. i don't prefer to get into any sorta discussion about whats conscience and whats not. for me, its *&^^$^&$...
