My Sentience personified.......

My mum remarked the other day that somehow the word “ma” (in whatever form/language it may be) exudes a feel of security, warmth and unconditional love. She was probably missing my grandma (her mum) a bit too much that day…..

But those words really got me thinking. ….And this post shall have all those threads of thoughts that got me pensive after ages that day….

If I may bore you readers with a small walk down my memory lane, I’d like to share this small incident here. I had once met this nun (Pardon my amnesiac head here…can’t mention her name) as a kid. She happened to say something which has somehow left a mark in my heart, probably forever.

She told me that all mothers are special-but that mine was a little more. I’m sure each one of us would like to believe so. But since this is my post I’d like to tell you why I feel so (Readers please do share your thoughts about the same).

Today, when I can proudly and humbly (whoa!!!What a paradox) call myself a career woman, I do realize the importance of being on one’s own feet...The feeling of being able to wake up each morning to know that you would have to rush to work, the feeling of buying your dear ones cute li’l things with your own salary, the feeling of knowing that you are revered at your workplace…..the feeling of creating a niche for your own self is simply ecstasy! I understand that today.

And to be able to achieve all that and then give it up just for your child is something I call grit. A lawyer of my mum’s caliber could have soared high today….To give up all that and more so as to let your child grow up as an able human being is something that sure deserves appreciation.

So this goes as a thank-you note to her this “Mothers’ Day”.

Thank you for everything Ma!!!

What a lovely post. Your Ma must be very proud of you, Priyanka. Some people in this world would not even consider what their mothers (or fathers) have been through; they just take it all for granted.

Have a wonderful Mothers' Day.

In response to your previous blog, I wrote about counting one's blessings. One of such blessings that I have counted is to have known your 'ma' since her marriage. There is no doubt about it. SHE is SPECIAL. ( not that I have anything against your father! He is special too, but in other ways!)It must have been heart-breaking for her to give up a promising career. But she did that without a demur and devoted her life to raising you and looking after her family in such exemplary manner. I often wonder if her energy, compassion and zest for life have any limits!
May her tribe increase!

i ahve never been on the best of terms with my mother...i ahve been the rebellious kid...always on a hate mission with mom coz she never sees the world from my eyes...but then i realize one thing...no matter what i say tp her and no matter just how apart we are...whenever in pain or grief..the first words that truely come out are -o ma...

that just shows just how precious moms are..because had it not been for them we wouldnt have seen the world...

A Mother's love is something that nobody can explain….. all dictionary words fall short to describe it …only we can feel it though our heart …. It is made of deep devotion and of sacrifice and pain, it is endless and unselfish… nothing can destroy it or take that love away…. It is patient and forgiving when all others are forsaking …. I believe God has given us his helping hand through our Mother …. As a kid I was unstoppable …I can not imagine how much energy my dear Ma has spent due to my defiant attitude… Now I can understand what she wanted to teach me as a kid…
And thanks Priyanka, for posting this amazing blog and giving us the opportunity to tell something about our Ma… You must be the kind of child your parents dreamed about…
Happy Mother’s day to all mom’s….

I agree. The hardest and the most sacrificing job in the world is 'MOTHERHOOD'.

Hi Priyanka,

Your Mum sounds like a very special person. You are justifiably proud of her.

We seem to have the same priorities about our respective mothers. You might enjoy the post titled `We Bring Ye Gifts' on my blog in Dec 2006. It's yet another link to my home city, Calcutta.

Just one other thing - I think pride and humility can co-exist.

Terrific post, Priyanka.

Cheers

That is so true. I feel the word 'Ma' has everything in it and requires thousand of millions words to explain what it means to an individual.
